The Road Patrol Technicianis responsible for delivering a high standard of roadside assistance to AA members. The role focuses on providing effective and efficient breakdown support to both individual and corporate customers, in line with the AA's reputation as a leading provider of emergency roadside services in Southern Africa

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist AA members at roadside breakdowns in urban and rural areas by conducting minor mechanical repairs or arranging towing and recovery services where required
  • Diagnose vehicle faults and provide practical roadside solutions to enable members to continue their journey
  • Sell and fit batteries where the existing battery is faulty or out of warranty
  • Render additional vehicle-related assistance to members when appropriate
  • Ensure all tools, equipment, and patrol vehicles are maintained in a safe and serviceable condition
  • Safeguard AA vehicles, tools, and equipment at all times
  • Complete all administrative duties accurately and timeously
  • Maintain a professional and presentable image in line with AA brand standards
  • Uphold safe and responsible driving behaviour at all times
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Team Leader or Regional (Depot) Manager

Minimum Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Grade 12 (essential)
  • Motor Mechanical or Auto Electrical qualification and/or equivalent
  • Minimum of three (3) years' vehicle diagnostic working experience
  • Exposure to a sales environment
  • Advanced driving certificate

Knowledge and Skills

  • Motor vehicle diagnostic and mechanical skills
  • Basic administrative and financial understanding
  • Knowledge of organisational structures, policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Strong navigational and time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Safety-conscious approach to work
  • Ability to work under pressure and respond effectively to roadside emergencies

Other

  • A valid Code C1 (10) or Code EC/EC1 (14) driver's licence (essential)
  • A valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP) (advantageous)
  • Willingness and ability to work shifts in line with operational requirements
  • Own reliable transport to and from the workplace premises
  • Ability to work in urban and rural environments
  • Physically fit and able to perform roadside assistance duties
  • Willingness to adhere to AA policies, procedures, and brand standards
