Durham University is seeking an experienced Senior Security Risk Manager to lead protective (physical) security across our world‑class institution. This strategic role covers counter‑terrorism, crime prevention, and compliance, ensuring a safe and secure environment for staff, students, and visitors.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead and develop the University’s protective security strategy

  • Advise senior leaders on threats, vulnerabilities, and compliance (including Martyn’s Law)

  • Oversee security frameworks, policies, and risk assessments

  • Support refurbishment and new build projects with robust security planning

What we’re looking for:

  • Degree‑level qualification (or equivalent experience)

  • Professional qualification in Protective Security Risk Management (crime prevention & counter‑terrorism)

  • Proven expertise in strategic security leadership within a complex organisation

  • Strong communication, problem‑solving, and stakeholder management skills

  • Desirable: ASIS PSP/CPP or Chartered Security Professional
