Durham University is seeking an experienced leader to head our Health & Safety Service. In this pivotal role, you’ll shape and deliver our safety strategy across the entire University, ensuring compliance, promoting best practice, and fostering a positive safety culture for staff, students, and visitors.

What you’ll do:

• Lead health & safety management systems and strategy across the University

• Advise senior leaders and oversee compliance monitoring

• Refresh policies, processes, and promote innovation in safety practices

• Provide expertise across academic, professional, and visitor activities

What we’re looking for:

• Degree-level qualification or equivalent experience

• Chartered IOSH membership (or equivalent)

• Proven track record in strategic health & safety leadership within a large, complex organisation

• Strong experience influencing senior stakeholders and driving cross-functional improvements
