TeacherActive is proud to be working with a mainstream Primary School based in Derby, DE24, who are looking to appoint a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant. The school is seeking a caring and enthusiastic individual who can provide consistent support to pupils with additional needs, helping them feel included, supported and confident within their learning environment.

The school is looking to take on a SEND Teaching Assistant on a full-time, long-term basis from ASAP until July 2027, working within a Year 1 classroom. The successful SEND Teaching Assistant will provide 1:1 support to a non-verbal child, using alternative communication methods, visual aids and adapted learning activities to support communication, classroom engagement and individual development.

The successful SEND Teaching Assistant will have:

• A relevant Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable

• Experience supporting children with SEND within a mainstream primary school

• Experience working with non-verbal children and additional communication needs

• Knowledge of alternative communication strategies, including visual aids and Makaton, is desirable

• Confidence providing 1:1 support within Key Stage 1 / KS1

• A patient, caring and adaptable approach to supporting children's individual needs
