Learning Mentor – Greenwich

Milk Education are working in partnership with a large, inclusive and highly regarded secondary school in Greenwich to recruit a dedicated Learning Mentor to join their pastoral support team. This is a rewarding opportunity for a compassionate and resilient Learning Mentor who is passionate about supporting young people to overcome barriers to education, improve engagement and achieve positive outcomes.

The successful Learning Mentor will work closely with students who require additional academic, behavioural or emotional support, helping them to develop confidence, resilience and positive learning habits. The school places a strong emphasis on inclusion, student wellbeing and personalised support, ensuring that every young person is given the opportunity to thrive both in and out of the classroom.

The Role:

  • Working as a Learning Mentor to support students across Key Stages 3 and 4
  • Delivering 1:1 and small-group interventions focused on wellbeing, attendance and engagement
  • Supporting students experiencing social, emotional or behavioural challenges
  • Helping pupils develop organisation, study skills and positive learning behaviours
  • Building trusting relationships that encourage confidence, resilience and self-esteem
  • Working closely with Heads of Year, pastoral leaders and teaching staff
  • Monitoring progress and maintaining accurate records of interventions
  • Supporting students at risk of disengagement and helping them reintegrate successfully into school life

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Previous experience as a Learning Mentor, Behaviour Mentor, Teaching Assistant, Youth Worker or Support Worker
  • Experience supporting secondary-aged students
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with young people from diverse backgrounds
  • Patient, proactive and resilient approach
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
  • Passion for helping students achieve their full potential

The successful Learning Mentor will become part of a well-established pastoral structure that includes dedicated year teams, wellbeing support and targeted interventions for students requiring additional guidance. Essential Requirements:

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Right to Work in the UK
  • Two professional references covering the last two years
  • Relevant experience working with children or young people
