Graduate Trainee Teacher – Nutrition
Mainstream Secondary Schools | London
Full-Time | Monday to Friday
Start Date: September 2026
Salaried Training Route | QTS Awarded

Are you a final-year Nutrition student or a Nutrition graduate seeking a clear, funded route into teaching from September 2026?

Do you want to train in a mainstream secondary school in London, earn a salary while you train, and gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) without taking on the financial burden of a traditional university-led PGCE?

A number of high-performing mainstream secondary schools across London are recruiting Nutrition graduates to join their Graduate Teacher Training programmes from September 2026. These schools work in partnership with established teacher training providers, offering a rigorous, school-based pathway into the teaching profession.

The Role – Graduate Trainee Teacher (Nutrition)

As a Graduate Trainee Teacher – Nutrition, you will train full-time in a London secondary school, supported by experienced mentors and specialist trainers.

You will:

  • Teach Nutrition and Food Education across Key Stages 3 and 4, with opportunities to support related curriculum areas where appropriate.
  • Gradually increase your teaching responsibility through a structured and supported training programme.
  • Receive weekly pedagogical training focused on classroom practice and effective teaching strategies.
  • Develop strong behaviour management and lesson delivery skills.
  • Support practical food preparation and nutrition-based learning activities within the classroom.
  • Work closely with experienced teachers and senior leaders.
  • Be fully prepared to achieve Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) within one academic year.

What’s on Offer

  • Salaried route into teaching with no tuition fees.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) awarded after one academic year.
  • Option to complete a PGCE at no cost with a leading UK university.
  • School-based, practice-led training rather than theory-heavy assessment.
  • Weekly professional training sessions delivered by expert practitioners.
  • Access to a national network of graduate trainee teachers.
  • A structured, gradual increase in teaching load to support confidence and development.
  • Excellent preparation for a long-term teaching career in London secondary schools.

Ideal Candidate

  • A 2:1 or above in Nutrition or a closely related degree (such as Food Science, Dietetics, or Health Sciences).
  • GCSE Maths and English at grade 4/C or above (or recognised equivalents).
  • Strong knowledge of nutrition, health, and food education.
  • A genuine commitment to working with young people and making a positive impact.
  • Professional, resilient, and motivated to develop as a teacher.
  • Right to work in the UK.
