A supportive and inclusive mainstream primary school in Tunstall, Staffordshire is seeking a dedicated Graduate Primary SEN Teaching Assistant to work within Key Stage 1, supporting children with Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, and other additional learning needs. This role is ideal for graduates considering future careers in SEN teaching, educational psychology, speech and language therapy, or child development.

The Role

As a Graduate Primary SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers, the SENCO, and specialist staff to provide tailored support to pupils at a crucial stage in their educational and emotional development. You will deliver one-to-one and small-group interventions, helping children access the curriculum, regulate emotions, and develop positive learning behaviours.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support for KS1 pupils with SEN.
  • Support children with Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, and additional learning needs.
  • Assist in implementing EHCP targets and individual support strategies.
  • Support early literacy, numeracy, and communication development.
  • Promote emotional regulation, focus, and positive behaviour.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff, and external professionals.
  • Create a calm, structured, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold a 2:1 or above in any degree discipline (Psychology, Education, or related subjects desirable).
  • Demonstrate a strong interest in special educational needs and inclusive education.
  • Be patient, empathetic, and resilient.
  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Have experience working with children with SEN (desirable, but not essential).
