Our Client, the South African Sugar Association (SASA) has a permanent opportunity available for an experienced Academic Training Manager at their Shukela Training Centre (STC) in Mount Edgecombe, KwaZulu- Natal

The Academic Training Manager will report to the General Manager of the Shukela Training Centre.

The successful incumbent will provide expert leadership and direction in the delivery of all Agricultural and Engineering Training, as well as trade testing at the Shukela Training Centre. In addition, the incumbent will initiate and manage all curriculum development and training quality management initiatives within STC and ensure that delivery of training conforms to the developed Annual Programme of Work and meets the accreditation requirements of various SETAs and of the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Guiding and directing all curriculum development initiatives within the Shukela Training Centre, ensuring compliance of the actual curriculum to the official curriculum, and attending to the review and update of the curriculum.
  • Strengthening and maintaining rigorous Shukela Training Centre Quality Management System (QMS), making sure that it is aligned with those of accreditation bodies such as the AgriSETA and other SETAs, National Artisan Moderation Body (NAMB) and Quality Council for Trade and Occupation (QCTO) and make sure that STC employees comply with the QMS.
  • Putting all measures to ensure that the integrity and status of Shukela Training Centre as an accredited Trade Test Centre is always maintained.
  • Ensuring that relationships that the Shukela Training Centre has established with critical stakeholders like the Department of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation, AgriSETA and other SETAs, NAMB and the QCTO, Shukela Training Centre customers are maintained and strengthened as well as establishing new relationships.
  • Identifying training business opportunities for the Shukela Training Centre and writing training proposals.
  • Ensuring that learners' experience at STC from registration to graduation endears them to STC and have a lasting positive impression of STC.
  • Managing the process of reviewing and aligning both the Agricultural and Engineering Training Departments' strategies and plans.
  • Overseeing the development and implementation of both the Agricultural and Engineering Training Departments' Annual Programmes of Work and related requirements.
  • Facilitates and coordinates preparation of annual budgets for both the Agricultural and Engineering Departments in accordance with SASA policies and standards, attends to the quarterly budget reviews and budget phasing processes.
  • Providing guidance on the work procedure or applications and, checks, investigates, and coaches employees towards achieving and maintaining acceptable standards of performance.
  • Ensuring that customer satisfaction surveys are conducted, and the results thereof inform various STC operations.
  • Ensuring that Shukela Training Centre training is continuously improved.
  • Identifying and acting on opportunities to offer training for the Shukela Training Centre and opportunities to expand the Centre's training scope.

Minimum Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Relevant three-year tertiary qualification.
  • 5 years' experience at a Management level in a Training related environment.
  • Experience in working with SETAs towards the accreditation of qualifications.
  • Experience in writing funding proposals and managing externally funded training projects.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of the South African Skills Development Landscape in general and Technical and Vocational Education Training landscape.
  • Valid code EB Driving license.
  • Computer literacy in MS Office
