Lead Teaching Assistant (Secondary School)

LS12, Leeds | £500–£530 per week | September interviews

Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant looking for a role where you can take on more responsibility and have a bigger impact within a secondary school?

We are recruiting for a Lead Teaching Assistant to join a secondary school in the LS12 area of Leeds. The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting pupils, working closely with teaching staff and helping to ensure students remain engaged and supported throughout the school day.

This would suit an experienced TA, HLTA or someone who has naturally taken on additional responsibility within their current school or education setting.

The role

You will be trusted to take the lead with pupil support and learning activities, while working closely with teachers and the wider school team.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading small-group learning and intervention sessions
  • Providing 1:1 support to pupils where required
  • Supporting pupils with additional learning needs
  • Assisting teachers with classroom learning and activities
  • Taking responsibility for groups of pupils when required
  • Supporting positive behaviour and engagement
  • Building strong, consistent relationships with pupils
  • Helping pupils develop confidence and independence
  • Working alongside teaching, pastoral and support staff
  • Adapting your approach to meet different pupils' needs

About you

We're looking for someone who is confident, reliable and comfortable taking responsibility.

You should be:

  • Experienced as a Teaching Assistant, HLTA or similar
  • Confident working with secondary-age pupils
  • Comfortable leading groups and activities
  • Able to manage challenging situations calmly and professionally
  • Positive, approachable and consistent
  • A strong communicator
  • Adaptable and able to work with different pupils
  • Comfortable working independently while also being part of a wider team
  • Genuinely committed to helping young people progress

Experience supporting SEN, behaviour, pastoral needs or complex learning needs would be particularly beneficial.

The opportunity

This is a good opportunity for an experienced TA who is ready to step into a lead-level position and take on greater responsibility within a secondary school.
