Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – Primary School – Nottingham

Milk Education are recruiting for a dedicated, experienced, and confident Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Nottingham on a long-term basis, starting in September 2026.

You’ll be joining a supportive school community where you will play an important role in supporting high-quality teaching and learning across the school. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant or HLTA who is confident working independently, leading lessons, and supporting pupils across the primary age range.

The successful candidate will work closely with class teachers and the wider school team, providing targeted interventions, leading small-group activities, and covering classes when required.

What You'll Be Doing in the Role:

  • Supporting teaching and learning across EYFS, KS1, and KS2
  • Covering classes and delivering pre-planned lessons when required
  • Leading small-group and 1:1 interventions
  • Supporting pupils with their academic and personal development
  • Working with pupils who require additional support, including SEND
  • Helping to manage behaviour and promote positive relationships
  • Supporting teachers with classroom activities and learning resources
  • Monitoring pupil progress and providing feedback to teachers
  • Encouraging pupils to develop confidence and independence
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and the wider school team
  • Creating an inclusive and positive learning environment
  • Supporting safeguarding and child protection procedures

Essential Requirements:

  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant within a primary school
  • HLTA qualification or relevant experience is highly desirable
  • Experience leading lessons or covering classes is desirable
  • Strong classroom and behaviour management skills
  • Experience supporting pupils 1:1 and in small groups
  • Experience working with SEND is desirable
  • A patient, nurturing, and positive approach
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and inclusive practice
