Ambitions Personnel are recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced Maintenance Factory Engineering Manager to join their manufacturing business on a permanent basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on engineering professional who enjoys taking ownership of site maintenance, improving equipment reliability and leading engineering activities within a busy manufacturing environment.

The Role

Reporting into the senior management team, you will be responsible for all maintenance and engineering activities across the site. Working closely with Production and Operations, you'll ensure machinery is maintained to the highest standard, minimise downtime, and drive continuous improvements across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate all Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) activities.

  • Carry out and oversee reactive maintenance to minimise production downtime.

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults.

  • Maintain maintenance schedules, service plans and engineering records.

  • Maintain and improve a range of manufacturing machinery, including CNC equipment, edge banders, beam saws, panel saws, extraction systems and compressors.

  • Lead machinery installations, upgrades and improvement projects.

  • Manage external engineering contractors and service providers.

  • Support, mentor and develop an Engineering Apprentice.

  • Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety legislation and statutory requirements.

  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and cost savings across the engineering function.

About You

We're looking for someone who is proactive, organised and enjoys solving problems. You'll be confident working independently while also collaborating with production teams to ensure maximum equipment availability.

You will ideally have:

  • Previous experience as a Maintenance Engineer, Maintenance Manager, Plant Engineer, Engineering Manager or similar.

  • A strong mechanical and electrical maintenance background.

  • Experience maintaining CNC machinery and automated manufacturing equipment.

  • Knowledge of Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) systems.

  • Excellent fault-finding and diagnostic skills.

  • Experience managing engineering contractors.

  • The ability to prioritise workloads and work under pressure.

  • A continuous improvement mindset with a practical, hands-on approach.

Salary

  • £38,000 - £50,000 per annum (depending on experience)
