Are you an experienced Occupational Therapist looking to make a lasting difference in the lives of children and young people with the most complex additional needs?

Do you thrive in a collaborative, therapeutic environment where education and clinical practice work hand-in-hand to help every pupil achieve greater independence?

Would you like to join a highly specialist SEN school where your expertise will directly shape pupils' communication, sensory regulation, mobility and quality of life?

A well-established specialist SEN school in Shepherd's Bush is seeking a dedicated Occupational Therapist to join its expanding multidisciplinary team. The school supports pupils aged 4-19 with a range of severe and profound learning needs, including Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), complex physical disabilities, Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), sensory impairments and complex medical needs.

Working alongside Speech & Language Therapists, Physiotherapists, Educational Psychologists, teachers and support staff, you will deliver a holistic Occupational Therapy service that enables pupils to access learning, develop functional independence and achieve meaningful EHCP outcomes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Completing comprehensive Occupational Therapy assessments for pupils with complex physical, sensory and developmental needs.
  • Designing and delivering individualised therapy programmes aligned with EHCP outcomes.
  • Supporting pupils with sensory processing, postural management, fine motor development, upper limb function and activities of daily living.
  • Assessing and recommending specialist equipment, seating, positioning and environmental adaptations.
  • Delivering both individual and group therapy sessions within classrooms and specialist therapy spaces.
  • Developing sensory regulation programmes and classroom strategies to maximise engagement and participation.
  • Working closely with teachers, support staff and families to embed therapeutic strategies throughout the school day.
  • Providing training and advice to school staff on sensory needs, manual handling, positioning and occupational therapy strategies.
  • Monitoring progress through evidence-based outcome measures and adapting interventions accordingly.
  • Contributing to annual EHCP reviews, multidisciplinary meetings and wider clinical service development.

The school offers a highly nurturing, child-centred environment where therapy is fully integrated into everyday learning. Every pupil benefits from a personalised curriculum designed to maximise communication, independence, physical development and emotional wellbeing.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Holds a recognised Occupational Therapy qualification.
  • Is HCPC registered and a member of RCOT (or equivalent).
  • Has experience working with children or young people with complex SEND.
  • Has knowledge of SLD, PMLD, Autism, sensory processing differences and complex physical disabilities.
  • Is confident carrying out functional, sensory and environmental assessments.
  • Works effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Has excellent communication, organisation and clinical reasoning skills.
  • Is passionate about improving outcomes for children with severe and complex learning needs.

What the school offers:

  • £46,000 - £58,000 salary.
  • Supportive multidisciplinary clinical team.
  • Extensive CPD and specialist training.
  • Well-resourced therapy facilities and specialist equipment.
  • Opportunities to contribute to service development.
  • A genuinely rewarding role where you can make a life-changing impact on pupils with complex needs.
