The Company This independent, rapidly growing event production agency prides itself on delivering creative technical solutions and exceptional service for a diverse range of corporate events, live music shows, and festivals across the UK. Based in Southampton, they are a small, passionate, and highly collaborative team where a relaxed culture meets a hard-working, "all hands on deck" ethos. A massive and unique part of their portfolio includes delivering stunning, atmospheric "Concerts by Candlelight" inside historic venues, churches, and cathedrals. Due to an exceptional influx of business and turning work away, they are now looking for an ambitious Audio Visual Technician / Touring Sound Engineer to join their tight-knit team.

The Role Due to continued growth, they are looking for a proactive Audio Visual Technician / Touring Sound Engineer to handle end-to-end technical delivery.

This is a broad, hands-on, and highly rewarding role where you will act as the face of the company on-site, managing equipment setups, engineering live sound, and leading small teams of freelance technicians. The standard working week is highly structured around the event industry, offering a 35 to 40-hour week condensed across 4 days (primarily Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday), leaving Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday completely free.

This is a versatile position where the Audio Visual Technician / Touring Sound Engineer will utilize all of their live production skills, including:

  • Acting as a primary client-facing contact on-site to ensure seamless event delivery.
  • On-site implementation, including setting up, operating, and breaking down AV, lighting, and sound equipment.
  • Mixing Front of House (FOH) sound for live music acts, tribute shows, and corporate conferences.
  • Managing operating plans on-site and leading small teams of freelance technicians under pressure.
  • Audio system design, implementation, and system tuning for complex acoustic spaces like historic venues.
  • Warehouse duties including prepping, testing, packing, loading, and driving company vans to deliver equipment.
  • Balancing exceptional creative delivery with commercial awareness and profitability.

The Candidate Candidates looking to step into this Audio Visual Technician / Touring Sound Engineer role should ideally bring 5+ years of experience in professional audio system design and operation, with a background in theatre production being highly beneficial. You should be a confident communicator who thrives when working directly with clients and venues. Technical expertise with high-end industry kits-specifically L-Acoustics Loudspeakers/amplifiers (LA Network Manager & Soundvision), Allen & Heath D-Live, Klang, Martin Audio, Dante, and networking infrastructure-is essential. Most importantly, we are looking for a resourceful problem-solver who is flexible enough to regularly travel and stay away from home 2-3 nights a week to deliver unforgettable live experiences. A full UK driving licence is required.
