Teaching Personnel is seeking experienced and dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs) to work within specialist educational settings supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in either the Wigan or Leigh area.

This is an excellent opportunity for a confident and resilient HLTA who is passionate about supporting vulnerable learners, promoting positive outcomes, and helping pupils overcome barriers to education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver learning activities and interventions to individuals and small groups.
  • Support pupils with SEMH needs both academically and emotionally.
  • Provide classroom cover when required.
  • Promote positive behaviour and support pupils with emotional regulation.
  • Work closely with teachers and pastoral teams to implement support plans.
  • Monitor and report on pupil progress and engagement.
  • Build positive relationships that encourage confidence, resilience, and achievement.

Requirements:

  • HLTA qualification or relevant experience within an educational setting.
  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, SEND, or behavioural needs.
  • Strong behaviour management and communication skills.
  • A patient, nurturing, and adaptable approach.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.

Desirable:

  • Experience within alternative provision, specialist schools, or SEND settings.
  • Training in trauma-informed practice, restorative approaches, or de-escalation techniques.
