Speech and Language Therapist – SEMH School

Location: Liverpool based (excellent transport connections)

Salary: Competitive (depending on experience and qualifications)

Start Date: September 2026

Are you a passionate Speech and Language Therapist eager to make a real difference within a specialist independent school environment?

Would you like the opportunity to join a newly established provision where your ideas, expertise, and input will help shape the support offered from the very beginning?

If that sounds like the kind of challenge you’re looking for, this opportunity could be perfect for you.

We are seeking a caring and motivated Speech and Language Therapist to join a purpose-designed specialist school in Liverpool this September. You will play an important role in supporting students with communication, interaction, and language development needs.

This is an exciting chance to work within a smaller, nurturing educational setting where you’ll have the support, flexibility, and resources needed to make a lasting impact on students’ lives.

About The Role :

In this role, you’ll assess, design, and deliver personalised speech and language interventions for students with a variety of additional needs. Working both individually and in small group settings, you’ll support young people in developing communication skills, confidence, and greater engagement in learning.

You’ll collaborate closely with teachers, SEN specialists, and senior leaders to provide advice, practical strategies, and staff guidance to ensure communication support is consistently embedded throughout the school.

This is a rewarding and varied position where your contribution will influence both individual student progress and the wider development of the provision itself.

What's On Offer :

  • Competitive salary (depending on experience and qualifications)
  • September 2026 start date
  • Liverpool location with excellent transport links
  • The chance to help develop and shape the Speech and Language provision within a specialist school
  • Smaller class sizes allowing for a more individualised approach to support
  • A welcoming and progressive leadership team
  • Modern, purpose-built facilities tailored to student needs
  • A fulfilling role where your work will have a meaningful impact every day
  • Ongoing training and professional development opportunities

About You :

We’re looking for someone who combines strong professional knowledge with a compassionate, student-focused approach:

  • A recognised qualification in Speech and Language Therapy
  • QTS – Qualified Teacher Status desirable but not essential
  • Experience supporting children with SEMH needs
  • HCPC registration (or currently working towards registration)
  • Previous experience working with children or young people, ideally within a specialist or independent school setting
  • Strong understanding of speech, language, and social communication difficulties
  • Experience supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN)
  • A patient, adaptable, and empathetic approach
  • Excellent communication and collaborative working skills

Bonus points if you have :

  • Experience working within specialist or alternative provisions
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed or therapeutic practices
  • Experience delivering staff training or implementing classroom communication strategies
  • Confidence working as part of a multidisciplinary team

This is far more than a traditional therapist position — it’s an opportunity to play a key role in building a specialist provision from the ground up. Within an independent school environment, you’ll have greater flexibility and influence over how support is delivered, giving you the opportunity to create genuine, long-term change for students who need it most.

If you’re a Speech and Language Therapist looking for a fresh, rewarding opportunity where you can truly make an impact, we’d love to hear from you.
