Are you an experienced English teacher looking for a role where you can make a meaningful and lasting difference?

Would you be motivated by the opportunity to help shape a brand-new SEMH school, supporting students to re-engage with education and achieve their full potential?

We are seeking a dedicated, resilient, and passionate English Teacher to join a newly established SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) secondary school in Manchester, opening in September 2026.

This is a rare opportunity to become part of a founding team, helping to build an inclusive, supportive, and transformative learning environment from day one.

What’s on Offer

Joining this new SEMH school comes with a range of exciting opportunities and rewards:

  • Be part of the founding team, shaping the school’s culture, systems, and inclusive ethos
  • Make a genuine difference in the lives of students facing significant challenges
  • Work in a supportive, collaborative, and professional environment
  • Access to high-quality CPD, mentoring, and career progression opportunities
  • Competitive salary in line with the teacher pay scale (MPS/UPS)
  • The unique opportunity to contribute to a school in its very first year

About You

We are looking for a committed and compassionate English Teacher who understands both the challenges and rewards of working within an SEMH setting. You will:

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Have experience teaching English at secondary level
  • Demonstrate strong behaviour management skills and emotional resilience
  • Be patient, empathetic, and passionate about supporting young people with additional needs
  • Be adaptable and creative in your teaching approach
  • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Be committed to inclusive education and helping every student succeed

Experience working within an SEMH, SEN, or alternative provision setting is highly desirable, but strong mainstream teachers with the right mindset and willingness to learn are encouraged to apply.

The Role

As an English Teacher in this SEMH setting, you will play a key role in helping students overcome barriers to learning and rediscover confidence in education.

You will deliver engaging and accessible English lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, adapting your teaching to meet a wide range of needs and abilities, while fostering a safe, structured, and supportive classroom environment. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and delivering differentiated English lessons tailored to individual needs
  • Supporting students with SEMH needs to re-engage with learning
  • Creating a calm, structured, and positive classroom environment
  • Using a patient and flexible approach to behaviour management
  • Monitoring progress and implementing targeted interventions
  • Working closely with pastoral teams and external professionals
  • Contributing to curriculum development and the wider school ethos

If you are a passionate English teacher ready to embrace a challenging yet highly rewarding role, this is a unique opportunity to make a real impact from the very beginning.
