The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join an established veterinary practice in Stevenage on a 12-month fixed-term contract. With flexible working options and a supportive clinical team, this is an excellent opportunity for a vet looking to manage a varied caseload while continuing to develop their clinical interests.

The successful Veterinary Surgeon will be involved in a broad range of first-opinion work, including medical investigations, inpatient care, diagnostics and surgery. You'll have access to experienced certificate holders across several disciplines, providing opportunities to build your confidence and develop your skills.

What They're Looking For

The practice is seeking a confident RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon, ideally with at least two years of small animal experience. You'll be comfortable managing medical cases, performing routine and emergency surgery, and making sound clinical decisions.

Strong communication skills, a compassionate approach to patient care and the ability to work collaboratively within a wider veterinary team are essential. This role would suit a vet who enjoys a varied caseload and is keen to continue developing clinically.

Working Pattern & Benefits

The position offers 30–40 hours per week, with full-time and part-time applicants welcome. There are no out-of-hours requirements, and the weekend commitment is limited to a 1 in 6 Saturday rota.

Benefits include a salary of up to £75,000 FTE, RCVS and VDS fees paid in full, a generous CPD allowance, access to funded postgraduate qualifications, clinical mentoring and specialist support. You'll also receive a health cash plan, employee wellbeing support and staff pet care discounts.

A Supportive Clinical Environment

You'll be joining a friendly team of vets, nurses, patient care assistants and receptionists, working together to provide high standards of veterinary care.

The practice has modern facilities to support its varied caseload and offers access to certificate holders in cardiology, feline medicine, soft tissue surgery and orthopaedics. With experienced colleagues available for guidance and opportunities to pursue further training, it's an environment where you can continue to grow as a clinician.

For a Veterinary Surgeon looking for flexible working, a varied first-opinion caseload and access to experienced clinical support, this could be an excellent next career move.
