A supportive school in Stoke-on-Trent (ST2 0HA) is looking for a caring, patient and motivated Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a graduate who wants to gain hands-on experience supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) while working alongside experienced teachers and education professionals.

You don't need a degree in Education or Psychology to apply. Graduates from every degree subject are welcome, and we accept candidates with a First, 2:1 or 2:2 degree.

The Role

As a Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant, you'll provide tailored support to pupils who may need additional help to access their education and make progress.

Your day could involve:

• Providing dedicated 1:1 support for individual pupils
• Working with small groups of students
• Supporting pupils with their academic development
• Helping pupils overcome barriers to learning
• Supporting children and young people with SEND
• Encouraging positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing
• Helping pupils develop confidence and independence
• Adapting activities and resources to meet individual needs
• Supporting communication and social development
• Working closely with teachers to understand and meet pupil needs
• Assisting with classroom activities and learning resources
• Providing reassurance and encouragement throughout the school day
• Helping maintain a calm, safe and inclusive learning environment

Every pupil is different, so you'll have the opportunity to develop your understanding of individual needs and learn how to adapt your approach accordingly.

What We're Looking For

You don't need previous SEN experience to be considered.

We're looking for graduates who are genuinely interested in helping children and young people succeed and who have the patience and resilience required to work in a school environment. You'll need:

• A First, 2:1 or 2:2 degree
• A degree in any subject — all university courses are welcome
• A genuine interest in supporting children and young people
• Patience, empathy and a positive attitude
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• The ability to build trusting relationships
• A willingness to learn and take direction from experienced staff
• A calm and consistent approach
• The resilience to deal with challenging situations positively
• A genuine interest in developing a career within education or SEN
• The right to work in the UK on a full-time basis

Previous experience with SEN, schools, children, youth work, tutoring, mentoring, coaching or care would be beneficial, but it isn't essential.

What's most important is that you're enthusiastic, reliable and committed to helping pupils achieve their potential.
