KPI Education is working in partnership with a supportive and inclusive secondary school in Wembley to recruit an experienced and proactive Attendance & Welfare Officer for September 2026.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to play a key role in improving student attendance, supporting pupil welfare and helping young people engage positively with school life.

First Aid training is essential for this position.

The Role

As an Attendance & Welfare Officer, you will work closely with students, parents, teachers, pastoral staff and senior leaders to identify and address barriers affecting attendance and wellbeing.

You will be responsible for monitoring attendance, following up on absences and providing practical and pastoral support to students who may be experiencing difficulties at school or at home.

The successful candidate will be approachable, resilient and confident communicating with a wide range of people while maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.

Key Responsibilities

As Attendance & Welfare Officer, you will:

  • Monitor daily attendance, punctuality and absence patterns.
  • Follow up unexplained and persistent absences with parents and carers.
  • Identify students at risk of persistent or severe absence.
  • Maintain accurate attendance and welfare records.
  • Work with pastoral teams to develop appropriate support strategies.
  • Meet with students to understand barriers affecting their attendance.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and carers regarding attendance concerns.
  • Support students experiencing pastoral, emotional or welfare difficulties.
  • Work alongside safeguarding and pastoral colleagues where concerns arise.
  • Help coordinate attendance improvement plans and interventions.
  • Contribute to meetings regarding vulnerable students and persistent absence.
  • Support the school's wider attendance and wellbeing initiatives.
  • Provide first aid support when required, in line with school procedures and your training.
  • Promote a positive, safe and inclusive environment for all students.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Previous experience in attendance, pastoral care, welfare, safeguarding, education or a related setting.
  • Current First Aid training – essential.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • The confidence to communicate professionally with parents and carers.
  • Strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail.
  • A calm, patient and approachable manner.
  • The ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • A proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
  • The ability to work effectively with teachers, pastoral staff and senior leaders.
  • A genuine commitment to improving outcomes for young people.
