SEMH Learning Support Assistant

Location: Halifax
Start: September 2026
Contract: Full-time, long-term (with potential for permanent placement)

Milk Education is recruiting resilient and compassionate SEMH Learning Support Assistants to work across Primary and Specialist settings throughout Halifax from September. Our partner schools support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs by providing structured, nurturing environments where positive relationships and emotional wellbeing are prioritised.

This role is ideal for candidates with experience in education, youth work, coaching or care who are passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
• Build positive relationships that encourage trust and engagement.
• Support pupils with emotional regulation and behaviour strategies.
• Deliver targeted interventions inside and outside the classroom.
• Promote confidence, resilience and independence.
• Work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams.
• Record progress and contribute to support plans.
• Help maintain a calm and positive learning environment.

About You

• Calm, patient and resilient.
• Passionate about supporting vulnerable young people.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Experience in education, youth work or care is desirable.
• Team Teach training is advantageous but not essential.
• Psychology, Criminology and Education graduates are encouraged to apply.
