Working Location

The role will start with a combination of office-based work in St. Johns, Canada and time on a mobile offshore drilling unit in Norway.

In February / March of 2027, the position will move into a 28/28 onshore rotation based out of the St. Johns office, Canada.

Contract Type

Assignment Type: Rotational - 28 days on / 28 days off

Start Date: August 2026

Contract Length: Annually renewable contract

Duration: Anticipated to be one (1) year with potential for extension.

Role Overview

This is a temporary contract requirement for approximately one (1) year with an estimated commencement date of August 2026, and potential for extension.

As a Drilling Superintendent, you will be responsible for the safe execution of well operations in alignment with an Operational Excellence model. You will lead and coordinate staff and contractors in delivering their elements of design, equipment, and services in a manner that maximizes achievement of organizational objectives. The position reports into the Wells Operations Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct safe and efficient well operations according to company standards and in alignment with the principles of Operational Excellence.
  • Oversee well intervention and workover activities according to defined objectives.
  • Deliver well objectives within budgeted costs, in close cooperation with supply chain management and finance.
  • Provide leadership of wellsite operations, including regular trips to the field.
  • Apply and understand SIMOPS procedures and accountabilities when working in a field with a producing asset.
  • Take ownership of offshore incidents and ensure root causes are identified and corrective actions implemented.
  • Select and manage contractors with supply chain management and in accordance with company standards and procedures.
  • Monitor contractor performance against KPIs and resolve performance issues.
  • Implement cost-effective technology and share learnings with other business units.
  • Participate in Emergency Response situations and maintain readiness through exercises and training.

Requirements

  • More than 15 years experience in technical intervention, drilling, and completions activities, with at least 3 years offshore field drilling and completions experience.
  • Significant experience in harsh weather, mid-water mobile offshore drilling unit operations.
  • Excellent communication in English and strong people management skills.
  • Knowledge of all aspects of interventions, workovers, drilling, and completions.
  • Required regulatory training for operations in the relevant jurisdiction.
  • Knowledge of Emergency Response.
  • Competence in drilling engineering.
  • Competent user-level computer skills.
  • Understanding of geophysical, geological, and reservoir engineering considerations.
  • Working knowledge of applicable legislation.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with other groups, including but not limited to well engineering, marine and aviation operations, health, safety and environment, supply chain management and finance, production engineering, reservoir engineering, and operations teams.
  • Previous experience with mobile offshore drilling unit intake scopes.
