What Does a Teaching Assistant Do?

As a Teaching Assistant, you’ll work alongside teachers and other education professionals to help pupils learn, develop and feel supported in the classroom.

Your responsibilities may include:

• Supporting the class teacher with lessons and classroom activities
• Working with individual pupils or small groups
• Providing 1:1 learning and classroom support
• Helping pupils remain focused and engaged
• Supporting positive behaviour and classroom routines
• Encouraging pupils to develop confidence and independence
• Supporting pupils with additional learning needs
• Providing pastoral and practical support
• Helping create a positive, inclusive and engaging learning environment

The exact responsibilities will vary depending on the school, year group and individual pupils you support.
