SEND Teaching Assistant

Location: Harrogate
Start: September 2026
Contract: Full-time, long-term (with potential for permanent placement)

Milk Education is recruiting a compassionate and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to support learners within a specialist post-16 educational setting in Harrogate from September. The setting provides a highly inclusive environment for young people with a range of additional needs, helping them to develop academically, socially and independently as they prepare for adulthood.

This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals who are passionate about supporting young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and making a lasting impact on their education, wellbeing and personal development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to learners throughout the college day.

  • Support teaching staff with personalised learning activities linked to individual EHCP outcomes.

  • Encourage learners to develop independence, communication and confidence.

  • Support life skills, employability activities and community-based learning where required.

  • Promote positive behaviour, emotional wellbeing and engagement.

  • Work closely with teachers, support staff and therapists to provide consistent, high-quality support.

  • Support learners with personal care where required.

  • Help create a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment.

  • Encourage learners to participate in activities and develop skills for greater independence.

About You

  • Caring, patient and resilient.

  • Passionate about supporting young people with SEND.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

  • Flexible, proactive and able to adapt to individual needs.

  • Previous experience within education, care or support work is desirable.

  • Psychology, Education, Health & Social Care or related graduates are encouraged to apply.

  • Knowledge of Autism, learning disabilities or communication strategies is beneficial but not essential.

  • A positive and encouraging approach to supporting young people.
