Help us to make a world of difference

Urenco is a global leader in the production of low carbon energy. We work at the cutting edge of the transition to a sustainable, net zero world.

We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our team at the Capenhurst, England site. In this role you are a member of a design team that delivers Front End Engineering Design (FEED) to multiple customers within Urenco. This includes technical feasibility studies and best available technology (BAT) studies. As the lead engineer for electrical expertise, you will play a key role in delivering conceptual and basic designs for new builds or modifications of production facilities. You will provide expert knowledge and advice management from a technical seniority perspective on plant design requirement specifications. Additionally, you will provide guidance and oversight on design development to third-party engineering service providers, ensuring high standards and alignment with project goals.

At Urenco we’re committed to giving you opportunities to be your best. If you feel you meet some, but not all of what we're looking for, please still apply. We believe in embracing the passion and potential of our people, and to achieve this we offer market leading training and development experiences. Along with the opportunity to be mentored and coached by some of the smartest minds in the industry.

What you’ll do:

Promote Safety Culture

  • Actively foster a pro-active safety culture within the organisation.
  • Conduct thorough analysis to drive a "learning from experience" behaviour across teams.

Integrate Safety into Advanced Plant Designs

  • Ensure that advanced plant designs incorporate safety features in line with industry best practices and lessons learned from the (nuclear) business.

Electrical Design Engineering

  • Oversee electrical design engineering aspects of centrifuge drive systems, electrical power generation and power distribution rating from site HV to plant LV, providing options and evaluations for feasibility, optioneering, and best available technology studies.
  • Deliver conceptual designs and design specifications with a focus on electrical engineering expertise.

Core Plant Technology (CPT) Design

  • Produce basic design packages concerning Core Plant Technology (CPT) related to electrical systems and equipment.
  • Define and maintain CPT design standards, following Urenco’s safety best practices and state-of-the-art technology within the Design Engineering Excellence Centre.

Support for Detailed Design and Manufacturing Quality

  • Provide direction and oversight regarding detailed designs and supplier manufacturing quality processes, upon request from site or group project managers.

Group Reference Design and Safety Standards

  • Establish, control, and maintain Group Reference Design and safety case standards, including core enrichment systems, electrical support systems, and de-conversion process requirements.
  • Ensure all design and safety case requirements support UTD (Urenco Technology Development) activities.

Post Implementation Review and Feedback

  • Lead post-implementation reviews within the electrical expertise area to establish a feedback loop for the Design Authority, ensuring compliance with safety licences, operational standards, and asset management practices.

What do you need to thrive in this role?

  • Educational Background - Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering or Advanced Technology, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Expertise and Specialisation - Recognised specialist in your field, with a high level of in-depth knowledge and proven problem-solving capabilities.
  • Experience in Quality Management - Solid experience working with quality management systems to ensure high standards in design and production processes.
  • Track Record in Design Delivery - Demonstrable success in delivering conceptual and basic designs for complex process facilities, with a strong focus on achieving effective and innovative outcomes.
  • Senior-Level Experience - Extensive experience in plant design, particularly in managing and guiding the development of advanced designs and solutions.

Travel: The role requires regular travel to Urenco facilities worldwide.

What We Offer You
