HGV Technician

Location: Pontefract, West Yorkshire

Salary: Up to £20 per hour DOE

Hours: Monday-Friday | 06:00-14:30 and 13:30-22:00, alternating weekly

Job Type: Full Time, Permanent

About the Role

We are recruiting an experienced Truck Technician / HGV Technician / HGV Mechanic to join a busy commercial vehicle workshop in Pontefract.

The Role of the HGV Technician:

  • Carry out major and minor repairs on HGVs, trailers and other commercial vehicles
  • Complete regular inspections and preventative maintenance
  • Carry out servicing and general maintenance, including tyre and oil-related checks
  • Diagnose faults and work with the repair team to plan and complete repairs
  • Provide roadside repair and breakdown assistance when required
  • Maintain accurate records of vehicles inspected and repaired
  • Complete all relevant documentation and paperwork
  • Process warranty claims or escalate where appropriate
  • Maintain a clean, safe and organised workshop
  • Ensure all work is completed safely, professionally and in line with DVSA standards

Requirements of the HGV Technician:

Essential:

  • Level 3 NVQ, City & Guilds or IMI qualification in HGV Vehicle Repair & Maintenance
  • Previous HGV Technician, HGV Mechanic or Truck Technician experience
  • Ability to identify worn and faulty components to DVSA standards
  • Full UK driving licence with relevant vehicle classes
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship

Desirable:

  • Trailer experience
  • BPW or LOLER experience/qualifications
  • Roadside or breakdown repair experience
  • Diagnostic and fault-finding experience
