We are supporting a number ofspecialist SEN schools across London looking to appoint Speech and Language Therapists on a long-term basis.

These settings support children and young people with a broad range of additional needs, which can include Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), complex communication profiles, developmental needs and associated sensory or social-emotional needs.

The role will involve working directly with pupils while also supporting teachers and Teaching Assistants to embed communication strategies throughout the school day. You will work as part of a wider multidisciplinary team, helping pupils develop their communication, access learning more effectively and build greater independence.

Depending on the school and your experience, opportunities can be available across Primary, Secondary and Post-16 provision, with caseloads and responsibilities tailored accordingly.

Key responsibilities include:

• Assessing the speech, language and communication needsof children and young people with SEND.
• Planning and delivering individualised Speech and Language Therapy programmes.
• Managing a caseload of pupils with a range of communication and learning needs.
• Supporting pupils with Autism, SLCN and complex communication profiles.
• Delivering both 1:1 and small-group therapy interventions.
• Developing practical communication strategies that can be embedded throughout lessons and the wider school day.
• Supporting pupils who use AAC, visual communication systems or alternative methods of communication, where appropriate.
• Working closely with teachers and Teaching Assistants to ensure communication strategies are implemented consistently.
• Contributing to the development of communication-friendly classroom environments.
• Supporting pupils to increase their independence, confidence and ability to communicate their wants, needs and ideas.
• Contributing to EHCP assessments, reviews and outcome setting.
• Monitoring pupil progress and adapting interventions in response to individual development.
• Maintaining accurate therapy records, assessments and professional reports.
• Providing advice, strategies and training to teaching and support staff.
• Working collaboratively with Occupational Therapists, Educational Psychologists, teachers, SENCOs and other specialist professionals.
• Building positive relationships with parents and carers to encourage consistency between school and home.
• Attending multidisciplinary meetings and pupil reviews where required.
• Contributing to whole-school approaches around communication and inclusion.
• Maintaining high standards of safeguarding, confidentiality and professional practice.

The original role particularly emphasises integrating therapy within the wider school environment, contributing to EHCP processes and working collaboratively with education staff, families and other therapists.

We are looking for someone who:

• Holds a recognised Speech and Language Therapy qualification.
• Is HCPC registered.
• Is an RCSLT member or eligible for membership.
• Has experience working with children or young people with SEND.
• Has an understanding ofAutism and Speech, Language and Communication Needs.
• Is comfortable working with pupils with a broad range of communication abilities.
• Understands the importance of adapting therapy around each child's individual profile.
• Can work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary school team.
• Isconfident advising teachers and Teaching Assistants on communication strategies.
• Has strong assessment, report-writing and organisational skills.
• Can build positive relationships with pupils, families and professionals.
• Takes a patient, flexible and child-centred approach.
• Is passionate about improving communication, independence and access to education for children with additional needs.

The source specification requires a recognised SaLT qualification, HCPC registration and experience with SEND, while also highlighting Autism, SLCN and multidisciplinary working.
