Key Stage 2 Support Assistant

Are you passionate about helping children thrive in the classroom? Do you have experience supporting children or young people, particularly those who may need additional learning or behavioural support? Are you looking to gain valuable experience in a primary school environment?

We’re currently seeking a Key Stage 2 Support Assistant to join a primary school based in the North of Durham. This role would suit someone with experience as a Learning Support Assistant, Teaching Assistant, SEN Support Assistant, Behaviour Support Worker or similar, as well as individuals looking to develop their career in education.

Working closely with the class teacher, you’ll play an important role in helping pupils access their learning, build confidence and develop their independence. You’ll provide targeted one-to-one and small-group support while creating a positive, inclusive environment where every child can succeed.

Monday to Friday |  £107.71 a day | September Start

Key Stage 2 Support Assistant – Requirements & Skills:

• Previous experience working with children in a school, education, childcare, youth work or similar setting (preferred)
• Experience supporting children with additional needs, SEND or behavioural needs (preferred)
• A Level 2 or 3 qualification in Education, Childcare, Supporting Teaching and Learning or a similar subject — or equivalent hands-on experience (preferred)
• A genuine passion for supporting children’s learning, development and wellbeing
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• A patient, positive and nurturing approach
• The ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
• A good understanding of how to adapt support to meet individual pupils’ needs

Key Stage 2 Support Assistant – Main Responsibilities:

• Providing one-to-one and small-group support to pupils across Key Stage 2
• Supporting pupils to access the curriculum and complete classroom activities
• Working alongside the class teacher to deliver targeted learning and interventions
• Supporting children who may have SEND, additional learning needs or behavioural needs
• Encouraging pupils to develop confidence, independence and positive learning behaviours
• Helping pupils develop their communication, social and self-management skills
• Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries
• Working collaboratively with teachers, support staff and other professionals
• Promoting a safe, inclusive and positive classroom environment
• Maintaining safeguarding, confidentiality and school policies at all times
