Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant

  • Full-time position, Monday–Friday, term-time only
  • November 2026 start, initially running until the end of the academic year
  • Earn up to £530 per week as a Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant
  • Secure a consistent placement within one welcoming and supportive Liverpool primary school
  • Gain experience supporting children across both KS1 and KS2
  • Outstanding preparation for graduates considering Educational Psychology, SEN specialisms and other psychology-related career pathways
  • Applicants should hold a 2:1 degree or above in Psychology or a closely related discipline
  • Previous experience working with children through schools, volunteering, mentoring or youth work would be advantageous
  • Deliver individualised support to pupils experiencing additional learning needs, emotional difficulties or behavioural challenges
  • Work in partnership with teachers, SENCOs and wider support teams to implement effective learning and development strategies

As a Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will play an important role in helping children overcome barriers to learning and develop the confidence to succeed. You could be providing dedicated 1:1 assistance to pupils with additional needs or facilitating small-group activities designed to strengthen communication, emotional awareness, social interaction and self-esteem. Throughout the placement, you will gain first-hand exposure to the relationship between psychology and education, developing a practical understanding of how behavioural and developmental strategies can improve outcomes for young learners. This experience will be particularly beneficial for those considering further academic study or careers within SEN, child psychology, behaviour support or mental health.

The school is keen to welcome a graduate who is approachable, patient and emotionally intelligent, with a genuine commitment to understanding and supporting children's individual needs. You should be confident communicating with others, comfortable working collaboratively and able to demonstrate empathy when faced with challenging situations. A positive attitude, willingness to learn and proactive approach will be essential.

This is a fantastic opportunity for Psychology graduates looking to gain meaningful experience before progressing into postgraduate Psychology programmes, Educational Psychology, teacher training or other professions centred around children's wellbeing, development and education. Working alongside experienced education professionals will allow you to build your knowledge, strengthen your practical abilities and gain a valuable insight into the different ways children can be supported to reach their potential.
