Graduate STEM Teaching Assistant

Wolverhampton | Full-Time | £20,000-£25,000

Turn your STEM degree into a career that makes a difference

Have you recently graduated with a STEM-related degree and are looking for a role where you can put your subject knowledge to good use?

Perhaps you're considering teacher training, tutoring or a career in education, but want to gain some hands-on classroom experience first?

We are working with a supportive secondary school in Wolverhampton who are looking for an enthusiastic Graduate STEM Teaching Assistant to join their team. You'll have the opportunity to work alongside experienced teachers, support students across STEM subjects and develop valuable classroom skills.

What will you be doing?

You'll provide additional support to students across Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths, helping them tackle challenging topics and become more confident in their learning.

Depending on the needs of the school and its students, you could be supporting learners 1:1, in small groups or within the classroom.

Your day-to-day responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting students with STEM-related learning and challenging concepts
  • Providing 1:1 and small-group academic support
  • Helping students develop their problem-solving and independent learning skills
  • Assisting teachers with classroom activities and differentiated tasks
  • Supporting practical work and encouraging students to engage with STEM subjects
  • Helping students build confidence, curiosity and motivation
  • Providing additional guidance to pupils who require extra support
  • Working as part of a wider team of teachers and support staff
  • Sharing observations and feedback on student progress where appropriate

What are we looking for?

We're keen to hear from graduates who have:

  • A STEM-related degree, such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, Computer Science or a similar subject
  • Ideally achieved a 2:1 or above
  • Strong subject knowledge and the ability to explain concepts clearly
  • A genuine interest in working with young people
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A patient, enthusiastic and positive approach
  • The ability to build positive relationships with students

Previous school or classroom experience isn't essential.

We're particularly interested in graduates who can demonstrate enthusiasm for their subject and a genuine desire to help young people learn and succeed.

Why consider this role?

This is an excellent opportunity to gain real classroom experience while making use of the degree you've worked hard to achieve.

You'll develop transferable skills in communication, mentoring, behaviour management and learning support, while working alongside experienced education professionals.

The role could be an ideal stepping stone if you're considering:

  • Teacher training or a career in teaching
  • Tutoring or academic support
  • A career in STEM education
  • Wider education or youth-focused roles

You'll also have the opportunity to gain experience supporting students with a range of abilities and learning needs and develop your understanding of what makes an effective learning environment.

Ready to get started?

If you're a STEM graduate looking for your first opportunity to make an impact in the classroom, we'd love to hear from you.
