Workshop Electrician

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Workshop Electrician to join the Service & Repair team in Dumbarton. This role is focused on the maintenance, servicing, fault finding, and repair of power generation equipment, ensuring assets are maintained to the highest standards of safety, reliability, and performance.

You'll play a key role in supporting customers across a range of industries by ensuring generators, electrical systems, and associated equipment are ready for deployment and operating efficiently.

The Role

As a Workshop Electrician, you will be responsible for:

• Diagnosing, fault finding, and repairing a wide range of generators, from portable units through to large containerised systems.
• Carrying out load testing and commissioning activities on generators ranging from 20kVA to 2000kVA, ensuring equipment performs to specification.
• Stripping, rewiring, and modifying electrical control panels and control modules, including component replacement and schematic updates.
• Inspecting, testing, and repairing high-voltage transformers and HV cable installations in accordance with safe isolation procedures.
• Maintaining and troubleshooting AC load banks and associated control systems.
• Programming, validating, and repairing control modules while working with single-phase and three-phase electrical systems.
• Supporting workshop operations by ensuring all equipment is prepared, tested, and ready for customer deployment.
• Completing all maintenance records and documentation accurately and in line with company procedures.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• A time-served electrical apprenticeship or equivalent electrical engineering qualification (SVQ Level 3 / SCQF Level 7 or above).
• Strong hands-on experience within an electrical maintenance, service, or repair environment.
• A solid understanding of AC/DC controls and single-phase and three-phase electrical systems.
• Previous experience carrying out control panel modifications, rewiring projects, and interpreting electrical schematics.
• Experience working on generators, plant equipment, industrial machinery, or power generation systems.
• Knowledge of HV equipment, load banks, and engine management or ECM systems would be highly advantageous.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads effectively.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to liaise professionally with colleagues, customers, and site teams.
• A full UK driving licence.
