Catholic Music Director - $50 per hour - Seymour Johnson AFB, NC

Do you have the musical skill to support Catholic liturgy with confidence and respect? Can you direct a choir, play Mass parts accurately and help create a smooth worship experience?

The role

Seymour Johnson AFB Chapel is seeking a Catholic Music Director to provide music direction and accompaniment for Catholic services, rehearsals and special liturgical events.

This is a part-time, 1099 contract role. You will support the Catholic chapel community by preparing music, directing singers, playing during Mass and helping ensure each service runs with care and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide music direction for Catholic worship services
• Lead at least one rehearsal and one worship service each week
• Direct the choir during rehearsals and live services
• Play hymns, Mass parts and suitable liturgical music
• Support the Gloria, Responsorial Psalm, Sanctus and Lamb of God
• Prepare music for Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter and other services
• Coordinate seasonal selections with the Catholic Chaplain
• Arrange music to suit the choir’s ability
• Support memorial, funeral and combined services when required
• Maintain music equipment and chapel spaces after use
• Follow chapel procedures, copyright rules and confidentiality standards

The person

You will need a Bachelor’s degree in music or a related field, and/or at least five years of church music ministry experience.

You should also be able to:

• Skillfully play piano or keyboard
• Sight-read, arrange and score music
• Direct a choir with confidence
• Support Catholic liturgical music and Mass structure
• Communicate clearly in English
• Work professionally in a multi-faith setting
• Provide suitable references
• Complete a live or recorded technical evaluation
• Complete the required background check process
