A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Manchester (M14 7SH) is seeking a committed and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their supportive team.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work closely with pupils who require additional emotional and behavioural support, helping them engage positively with learning and develop the skills they need to succeed both in and out of the classroom.

The Role :

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, helping them access learning, develop positive relationships, and achieve their individual goals. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEMH needs
  • Supporting children with Autism, ADHD, attachment needs, trauma-informed approaches, and other additional needs where appropriate
  • Promoting positive behaviour using consistent and supportive behaviour management strategies
  • Helping pupils develop emotional regulation, resilience, and social skills
  • Delivering targeted interventions to improve engagement and wellbeing
  • Building positive, trusting relationships that encourage confidence and independence
  • Supporting teachers with classroom activities and adapting learning where required
  • Monitoring pupil progress and providing feedback to teaching staff
  • Working collaboratively with families and external professionals to support individual pupil outcomes

About You, To be considered for this role, you will:

  • Have experience working with children or young people in a school, childcare, youth work, or care setting (desirable but not essential)
  • Have experience supporting pupils with SEMH, SEND, or behavioural needs (desirable)
  • Demonstrate patience, resilience, empathy, and emotional intelligence
  • Be confident managing challenging behaviour using positive and restorative approaches
  • Have excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Be proactive, adaptable, and committed to supporting every child's individual needs
  • Have a genuine passion for improving children's wellbeing and educational outcomes
  • Have the right to work in the UK
