A leading specialist SEN school in South West London is seeking an Early Years SEN Teacher to join its dedicated team from September on a temp-to-perm basis. The school supports pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), communication and interaction needs, sensory processing differences and complex developmental profiles. Many pupils are working significantly below age-related expectations and require highly personalised learning programmes built around their Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). This is a unique opportunity to join a nurturing, therapeutic and child-centred environment where communication, engagement, independence and wellbeing are prioritised alongside academic development. Staff work closely with Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and specialist support teams to ensure every pupil receives a holistic educational experience tailored to their individual needs. Key Responsibilities - Plan and deliver highly personalised Early Years provision aligned to individual EHCP outcomes and developmental targets. - Create engaging, communication-rich learning environments that support exploration, curiosity and engagement. - Deliver a curriculum centred around play-based learning, sensory exploration, communication development and early cognition. - Support pupils with Autism, Severe Learning Difficulties, communication needs and complex developmental profiles. - Use visual supports, AAC systems, Makaton, objects of reference and alternative communication methods to maximise pupil participation. - Develop pupils' early communication, joint attention, social interaction and emotional regulation skills. - Create structured routines and predictable learning environments that enable pupils to feel safe, secure and successful. - Work collaboratively with Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists and wider multidisciplinary teams to implement specialist strategies. - Monitor progress through observation-based assessment and evidence gathering linked to EHCP outcomes. - Lead and contribute to annual reviews, target setting and multidisciplinary planning meetings. - Support pupils with personal development, independence, self-care and preparation for future stages of education. - Build strong partnerships with families, ensuring consistency between home and school approaches. - Adapt learning activities and environments to meet individual sensory, communication and developmental needs. - Support positive behaviour through proactive, therapeutic and relationship-based approaches. Person Specification - Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). - Experience teaching within EYFS. - Experience supporting pupils with Autism and/or complex SEND. - Strong understanding of child development and early communication. - Knowledge of AAC, Makaton, sensory regulation strategies or a willingness to develop expertise in these areas. - Experience delivering personalised learning programmes. - Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary environment. - Strong interpersonal, communication and organisational skills. - Genuine passion for inclusive education and improving outcomes for children with complex needs.
