About the Role

We are looking for a proactive, analytical and detail-focused Stock Control & WMS Manager to take ownership of inventory accuracy, stock control processes and the effective use of our Warehouse Management System (WMS).

Key Responsibilities

Stock Control & Inventory Accuracy

  • Take ownership of inventory accuracy across all warehouse locations.
  • Develop and manage an effective cycle counting programme, prioritising stock based on value, volume and risk.
  • Investigate stock discrepancies, missing inventory, incorrect locations and unexplained movements, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Monitor stock adjustments, ensuring appropriate investigation, authorisation and audit trails.
  • Support annual and periodic stocktakes, maintaining control of damaged, quarantined, returned and unidentified stock.

Warehouse Management System (WMS)

  • Act as the operational owner and subject matter expert for the WMS.
  • Ensure system processes effectively support goods receipt, put-away, replenishment, picking, packing, dispatch, returns and stock movements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve system utilisation, streamline processes and eliminate unnecessary manual workarounds.
  • Work with IT, system providers and operational teams to resolve system issues and support upgrades, developments and process changes.
  • Maintain system documentation, standard operating procedures and user training.
  • Where applicable, maintain strong transactional discipline within Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.

Investigation, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead structured investigations into recurring stock and warehouse process issues.
  • Use techniques such as 5 Whys, Pareto analysis and Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) to identify and eliminate root causes.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators, including inventory accuracy, cycle count completion, stock adjustment values, warehouse capacity utilisation and aged quarantine stock.
  • Produce meaningful reports that highlight trends, risks and areas requiring management attention.
  • Lead improvement initiatives that increase accuracy, improve productivity and reduce reliance on manual adjustments and spreadsheets.

Warehouse Process Control & Compliance

  • Work closely with Warehouse Operations to maintain stock integrity throughout the full warehouse process, from receipt through to dispatch and returns.
  • Ensure every physical stock movement is supported by the correct system transaction.
  • Develop and maintain clear procedures, controls and audit records.
  • Train and support colleagues in correct stock-control and WMS processes.
  • Challenge non-compliant working practices and escalate recurring failures.
  • Support warehouse layout and location optimisation while ensuring compliance with company Health & Safety requirements.
  • Take ownership of stock investigations across departmental boundaries and drive lasting improvements.

About You

You will be an organised, analytical and confident individual with a strong understanding of warehouse stock control and inventory management. You will combine attention to detail with the ability to challenge existing processes, investigate problems and deliver practical improvements.

You will ideally have:

  • Proven experience in stock control, inventory management, warehouse operations or a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of warehouse management systems and stock transaction processes.
  • Experience investigating stock discrepancies and implementing effective corrective actions.
  • A data-driven approach, with the ability to analyse trends, produce reports and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Experience developing or maintaining cycle counting programmes and supporting stocktakes.
  • A good understanding of warehouse processes, including goods receipt, put-away, replenishment, picking, dispatch and returns.
  • Experience writing standard operating procedures and training colleagues.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to challenge established practices where necessary.
  • A proactive, hands-on approach and the ability to manage competing priorities.

Desirable experience:

  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.
  • Familiarity with inventory KPIs, root-cause analysis and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience supporting WMS implementations, upgrades, testing or system enhancements.
  • Experience working with Finance on inventory valuation and stock discrepancies.
  • A culture of accountability, continuous improvement and prevention rather than correction.
