We’re currently recruiting for a Pastoral Support Worker to join a welcoming and supportive school in Leeds. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping children and young people develop their confidence, emotional wellbeing, behaviour and engagement with education.

You’ll be joining a school that places wellbeing, inclusion and positive relationships at the centre of its culture. The school understands that every pupil is different and is committed to ensuring that all students have the support they need to feel safe, valued and ready to learn.

This role would suit someone with experience in pastoral support, youth work, mentoring, sports coaching, education, care or community work who wants to make a meaningful difference to young people.

Your Main Responsibilities

• Providing one-to-one and small-group support to pupils who may need additional pastoral or emotional support
• Building strong, positive relationships with pupils and becoming a trusted and consistent adult
• Supporting pupils with confidence, self-esteem, resilience and emotional wellbeing
• Helping pupils manage their emotions and develop positive strategies for dealing with challenges
• Supporting pupils who may experience SEND, SEMH, behavioural or emotional difficulties
• Mentoring pupils and helping them develop positive attitudes towards school and learning
• Supporting pupils who may be struggling with attendance, motivation or engagement
• Working alongside teachers, pastoral staff and the wider school team to provide consistent support
• Helping manage behaviour and encouraging positive choices and respectful relationships
• Identifying barriers that may be affecting a pupil's ability to learn and helping them access appropriate support
• Encouraging pupils to develop independence and take ownership of their behaviour and learning
• Supporting the school in creating a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment

Requirements or Skills

We’re looking for someone who is approachable, resilient, patient and confident in working with young people.

You’ll ideally have:

• Previous experience working with children or young people in a school, youth, care, sports or community setting
• Experience supporting behaviour, wellbeing or emotional needs is desirable
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• The ability to build trusting relationships while maintaining clear and appropriate boundaries
• A calm and consistent approach when dealing with challenging behaviour or difficult situations
• Good emotional awareness and the ability to listen and respond appropriately
• A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers and reach their potential
• The ability to work collaboratively with teachers and other professionals
• A proactive and positive attitude
• A willingness to complete relevant safeguarding and CPD training
