SEND Learning Support Assistant – PMLD Cohort

Hours: Monday to Friday, 10:00am – 3:00pm
Start: September 2026
Contract: Part-time, Long-term (with potential for permanent placement)

Milk Education is recruiting compassionate and dedicated SEND Learning Support Assistants to join a welcoming Secondary SEND School in Bradford, supporting students within their PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties) cohort from September.

The school provides a nurturing, inclusive and highly supportive environment for young people with complex learning needs, physical disabilities and medical needs. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a genuine difference and is comfortable supporting students with both their educational and personal care needs.

This role requires candidates to be available Monday to Friday, 10:00am–3:00pm, and to be confident providing personal care and carrying out moving and handling duties as part of their daily responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Support students with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and complex additional needs.
• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to enable students to access learning and achieve individual outcomes.
• Assist with personal care, including toileting, feeding and changing where required, ensuring dignity and respect at all times.
• Carry out moving and handling safely, following individual care plans and school procedures.
• Support students with mobility equipment and physical interventions where appropriate.
• Work closely with teachers, therapists and the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver personalised learning.
• Use sensory strategies, communication aids and visual resources to promote engagement and independence.
• Encourage positive behaviour, communication and social interaction.
• Help maintain a safe, inclusive and stimulating learning environment.

About You

• Caring, patient and resilient with a genuine passion for supporting young people with SEND.
• Comfortable providing personal care and supporting students with complex physical needs.
• Experience with moving and handling is desirable, although training can be provided.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Flexible, proactive and able to build positive relationships with students and staff.
• Previous experience within SEND, education, care, healthcare or support work is highly desirable.
• Experience supporting individuals with PMLD, complex needs or physical disabilities would be advantageous.
• Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, sensory regulation or alternative communication methods is beneficial but not essential.
