TeacherActive is proud to be working with a number of specialist SEND schools across Bristol and South Gloucestershire to recruit dedicated Team Teach SEND teaching assistants. These welcoming schools support children and young people with Autism, Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), sensory processing needs, and behaviours that challenge. They provide nurturing, inclusive environments where personalised learning and therapeutic support help every pupil to succeed.

The schools are looking to appoint full-time Team Teach SEND teaching assistants from September on long-term placements, with opportunities to secure permanent positions for the right candidates.

As a Team Teach SEND teaching assistant, you will work alongside teachers and therapists to support pupils on a one-to-one basis and in small groups. Using Team Teach strategies, you will help promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation and engagement in learning, while encouraging pupils to develop confidence, independence and essential life skills.

The successful Team Teach SEND teaching assistant will have:

  • Team Teach training, previous experience using Team Teach strategies, or a willingness to refresh their qualification

  • At least six months' experience supporting children or young people with Autism, complex SEND, or behaviours that challenge

  • Experience working within SEND schools, specialist provisions, alternative provisions, care, or therapeutic settings

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and colleagues

  • A calm, patient and resilient approach with a genuine passion for supporting children and young people with additional needs

  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or a willingness to obtain one
