Graduate Speech and Language Teaching Assistant | Leeds Secondary School | Full-Time, Long-Term | Up to £560 per week

Are you a graduate passionate about helping young people communicate with confidence?

If you're looking for a role where you can make a genuine difference in a mainstream secondary school — supporting students with speech, language and communication needs — this could be the perfect start to your career.

The role

We're recruiting a Graduate Speech and Language Teaching Assistant for a mainstream secondary school in Leeds, supporting students aged 11–16 with a range of speech, language and communication needs across the school community.

Working alongside the SENCO, teaching staff and pastoral team, you'll deliver support through 1:1 sessions, small groups and in-class assistance. You'll help implement strategies set out in students' EHCPs and support plans, assist with monitoring progress, and contribute to a positive, communication-friendly environment across the school. You'll build valuable hands-on experience while playing a meaningful role in helping students access the curriculum and develop their confidence.

What's on offer

  • Full-time, long-term Graduate role with a September 2026 start
  • Monday to Friday, term time only
  • Up to £560 per week
  • A welcoming, collaborative secondary school team
  • Dedicated mentorship and on-the-job support throughout
  • An excellent platform to build experience for further study or a career in SEND/SaLT-related professions

Who we're looking for

  • A degree in Speech and Language Therapy, Education, Psychology, or a related field — or awaiting final results
  • A genuine interest in supporting young people's communication and language development
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative, team-oriented approach
  • Eagerness to learn, grow and develop within a school-based setting
  • An enhanced DBS check (child workforce) — or willingness to obtain one

Desirable:

  • Placement or work experience in a secondary, SEND or mainstream school setting
  • Familiarity with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) in adolescents
  • A proactive, solution-focused approach and enthusiasm for inclusion

Why apply now?

September 2026 positions like this are filled well in advance — schools are identifying the right candidates now, not in the summer. Registering your interest early puts you ahead of the field and gives you the best chance of securing a role where you'll genuinely flourish.

Ready to take your first step into a career supporting young people's communication?
