About the Role

We are recruiting on behalf of a new and rapidly developing 11–16 secondary school currently in the early stages of growth. With only Years 7 and 8 on roll, the school is building the foundations of an academically ambitious, high‑performing environment that will expand year-on-year.

This is a rare opportunity to join a school at the beginning of its journey, helping to shape its culture, academic identity, and long‑term vision. You will be joining at the perfect time to make a significant and lasting impact on pupils and the English department as it grows.

The Role: Teacher of English

The school is seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and reflective Teacher of English who is passionate about high‑quality, knowledge‑rich English teaching. You will play a key role in delivering a rigorous curriculum that promotes strong literacy, analytical thinking, and cultural understanding.

As part of the role, you will also teach an integrated Year 7 transition curriculum focused on literacy development, PSHE, Citizenship, and building students’ cultural awareness.

What You Will Do

  • Deliver high‑quality English lessons that develop strong reading, writing, vocabulary, and literary knowledge
  • Teach an integrated Year 7 transition curriculum designed to strengthen literacy and support wider personal development
  • Combine academic rigour with effective adaptive teaching to ensure all pupils can succeed
  • Work closely with the SEND team to implement appropriate strategies and classroom adaptations
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of a coherent, knowledge‑rich English curriculum
  • Use robust assessment to inform teaching and support strong progress
  • Help shape the early culture, expectations, and identity of the English department
  • Support enrichment activities (e.g., debate clubs, creative writing, book clubs, theatre visits)
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and model professionalism

What We’re Looking For

  • A passionate English specialist with excellent subject knowledge
  • Understanding of disciplinary English knowledge (e.g., literary analysis, critical reading, rhetoric)
  • A reflective, research‑informed practitioner
  • High expectations for pupil behaviour, effort, and scholarly engagement
  • Commitment to professional growth and to building an emerging department
  • Enthusiasm for contributing to a new school environment built on academic rigour and intellectual curiosity

Why This Role Is Exciting

  • Shape an English curriculum and department in a new and expanding school
  • Teach within a research‑informed, high‑expectations environment
  • Contribute directly to establishing an academic culture from the ground up
