Teacher Active is looking to expand our pool of dedicated and reliable SEN / SEMH Teaching Assistants to support pupils across Newark and the surrounding areas.

We work with mainstream schools, SEN provisions and alternative education settings, offering a variety of opportunities for Teaching Assistants with experience supporting children and young people with additional needs.

With day-to-day supply, short-term cover and longer-term placements available, this is an excellent opportunity for candidates seeking either flexibility or more consistent work.

The Role

As an SEN / SEMH Teaching Assistant, you may be providing 1:1 support, working with small groups or supporting pupils within the classroom. You could be working with children and young people with a range of needs, including SEMH, ASD, ADHD, communication difficulties and behaviours that require additional support.

Your role will involve building trusting relationships, supporting emotional regulation, encouraging positive engagement with education and helping pupils develop their confidence, independence and social skills.

The Ideal SEN / SEMH Teaching Assistant Will Have:

• Experience supporting children or young people with SEN and/or SEMH needs.
• Experience working in a school, SEN provision, alternative provision or a similar setting.
• Confidence supporting pupils who may display challenging behaviours.
• A calm, patient and resilient approach.
• Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
• The ability to build positive and professional relationships with pupils.
• An understanding of safeguarding and pupil wellbeing.
• A flexible, reliable and adaptable approach to working across different settings.
