Do you have Team Teach or recognised de-escalation training and experience supporting children and young people with SEND?

Are you a calm, resilient and compassionate Teaching Assistant who can support pupils with complex additional needs and behaviours that challenge?

Are you confident using positive behaviour strategies and looking for a rewarding role within a specialist SEND setting?

TeacherActive is working with a number of specialist SEND schools across Bristol and South Gloucestershire, who are looking to recruit experienced Team Teach SEND Teaching Assistants from September 2026.

These schools support children and young people with a range of complex SEND, including Autism, Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), sensory processing needs and behaviours that challenge.

The schools provide nurturing and supportive environments, with a strong focus on personalised learning, communication, emotional regulation and independence.

The Role

As a Team Teach SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside teachers, therapists and other professionals to provide individual and small-group support to pupils with complex needs.

You will use your Team Teach or de-escalation training to help pupils manage challenging situations safely and positively, while promoting emotional regulation, engagement and positive behaviour.

You will need to remain calm and consistent during periods of dysregulation, build strong relationships with pupils and understand that behaviour can be a form of communication.

You will support pupils to overcome barriers to learning while encouraging their confidence, independence, communication and life skills.

The Successful Team Teach SEND Teaching Assistant Will Have:

  • Team Teach training or recognised de-escalation/positive handling training.

  • Recent experience using Team Teach, de-escalation or positive behaviour strategies is highly desirable.

  • At least 6 months' experience supporting children or young people with SEND, particularly Autism, complex needs or behaviours that challenge.

  • Experience working within a specialist SEND school, alternative provision, care or therapeutic setting.

  • An understanding of supporting children with complex additional needs.

  • The ability to remain calm, patient and resilient when supporting pupils who may become dysregulated or display challenging behaviour.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils.

  • A consistent and nurturing approach to behaviour management.

  • The ability to work effectively alongside teachers, therapists and other professionals.

  • A genuine passion for supporting children and young people with SEND.

  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.

In Return, You Can Expect:

  • A dedicated team of consultants available 24/7 throughout the onboarding process.

  • Access to CPD courses and certificates through the My-Progression platform.

  • Market-leading rates of pay.

  • TeacherActive Referral Scheme – receive up to £100 when you refer a friend. Terms and Conditions apply.

  • Valuable experience within specialist SEND settings.

  • Potential for long-term and permanent opportunities for the right candidates.

All TeacherActive staff are paid on a PAYE basis, giving you peace of mind that the correct tax and National Insurance contributions are made, with no hidden administration charges.
