Are you a graduate who wants to work with young people and help them overcome barriers to learning?

Do you have the patience, empathy and resilience needed to support students with additional needs and help them feel more confident in their education?

We are working with a welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Wolverhampton who are looking for a motivated Graduate Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join their team.

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain practical experience in a school environment while developing your understanding of Special Educational Needs and building skills for a future career in teaching, SEN, educational psychology or wider education.

The Role

As a Graduate LSA, you'll work alongside teachers and the school's support team to provide personalised assistance to students with a range of additional needs.

You'll help students to access the curriculum, stay engaged with their learning and develop greater confidence and independence.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group supportto students with SEN
  • Helping pupils access lessons and participate in classroom activities
  • Reinforcing learning and providing additional explanations where needed
  • Supporting students to remain focused, engaged and motivated
  • Helping young people develop their social, emotional and communication skills
  • Assisting teachers with differentiated learning activities
  • Building positive and supportive relationships with students
  • Working closely with teachers, the SENCO and wider support staff
  • Sharing relevant observations about student progress and wellbeing
  • Encouraging students to develop their independence and confidence

Students may have a range of additional needs, including autism, ADHD and dyslexia.

What are we looking for?

The successful candidate will have:

  • A strong academic background, ideally a 2:1 degree or above
  • A genuine interest in supporting young people
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patience, empathy and resilience
  • A positive and encouraging approach
  • The ability to establish positive relationships with students
  • A willingness to learn and develop their skills within the role

Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable, but not essential.

Experience in tutoring, mentoring, volunteering, coaching or similar roles would be beneficial, but we're also keen to hear from graduates who can demonstrate the right attitude, compassion and commitment to supporting young people.
