Our client is an established and growing design, manufacturing and installation company with over 20 years of experience.

The business works on a wide variety of commercial projects, including retail developments, drive-through restaurants, petrol station forecourts, car showrooms, shops and office developments.

As part of continued growth and investment in operations, the company is looking for an experienced Electrical & Automation Engineer to join its team.

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity for an Electrical & Automation Engineer to take responsibility for the electrical and automated systems supporting manufacturing and production operations.

Working closely with management and production teams, you will be responsible for maintaining, fault-finding, improving and developing electrical and automated equipment, helping to maximise production efficiency and minimise downtime.

The successful candidate will be hands-on, technically minded and comfortable working independently to diagnose and resolve electrical and automation issues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair electrical faults on machinery and production equipment.
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive maintenance.
  • Fault-find on electrical control systems, sensors, motors, drives and associated equipment.
  • Support and maintain automated machinery and production systems.
  • Identify opportunities to improve machine reliability, efficiency and productivity.
  • Assist with electrical modifications, installations and commissioning of equipment.
  • Read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Investigate recurring faults and implement effective long-term solutions.
  • Work closely with production and management teams to minimise equipment downtime.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.
  • Support the installation and commissioning of new machinery and automation systems.
  • Ensure all work is carried out safely and in accordance with relevant electrical and Health & Safety requirements.
  • Assist with the development of preventative maintenance programmes.
  • Provide technical support to production colleagues when required.
  • Work with external contractors and suppliers where specialist support is required.
  • Contribute ideas and initiatives to improve manufacturing processes and automation.

About You

The ideal candidate will be an experienced Electrical & Automation Engineer who enjoys a hands-on engineering environment and is confident troubleshooting electrical and automated machinery.

You will ideally have:

  • Previous experience working as an Electrical Engineer, Maintenance Engineer, Automation Engineer or similar.
  • Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Experience within a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Good understanding of electrical control systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Experience with PLC-controlled machinery and automation.
  • Knowledge of sensors, motors, inverters/drives and control panels.
  • Experience of planned preventative maintenance.
  • A practical, problem-solving approach.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a small, friendly team.
  • A strong commitment to Health & Safety.
  • An electrical engineering qualification such as NVQ, HNC, HND or equivalent would be advantageous.

Experience with PLC programming, Siemens or similar control systems, robotics, CNC machinery or automated production equipment would also be beneficial.
