Behaviour Buddy – DH4

Full time | £107.71 daily rate | 8:30am -15:30pm

Are you someone who is calm, patient and great at building relationships with children? Do you enjoy helping pupils work through challenges and seeing the difference that consistent, positive support can make?

We are currently looking for a Behaviour Buddy to join a welcoming Primary School in Houghton le Spring.

This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to make a genuine difference to a child’s school experience. You’ll work closely with pupils who may need additional support with their behaviour, emotions and engagement, helping them feel understood, build confidence and make positive choices throughout the school day.

What will you be doing?

  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils
  • Support children to manage their emotions and behaviour in a calm and consistent way
  • Help pupils recognise triggers and develop strategies to deal with challenging situations
  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support where needed
  • Encourage pupils to engage with lessons, routines and activities
  • Help children develop confidence, independence and positive decision-making skills
  • Work alongside teachers and school staff to provide a consistent approach to behaviour
  • Celebrate progress and encourage pupils to recognise their own achievements
  • Help create a calm, safe and supportive environment where children feel able to learn
  • Follow school safeguarding, confidentiality and behaviour policies at all times

What are we looking for?

We’re looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with children and understands that every pupil is different. You don’t need to have all the answers. What’s important is that you’re reliable, approachable and able to stay calm when things don’t go to plan. You’ll become a trusted member of the school team and someone pupils know they can rely on.

You’ll ideally have:

  • A patient, calm and consistent approach
  • The ability to build genuine, positive relationships with children
  • Confidence supporting pupils who may display challenging behaviour
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • The resilience to remain positive when faced with difficult situations
  • Previous experience working with children in a school, education, youth work or support setting (preferred)
  • A Level 2 or 3 qualification in childcare, education, behaviour support or a related area, or relevant hands-on experience (preferred)
  • The ability to work well as part of a wider school team
