Phonics Intervention Buddy

Milk Education are seeking a Phonics Intervention Buddy to work in a Primary School in the L6 area of Liverpool on a temporary, long‑term basis. This is a supportive and inclusive school that maintains high standards of attainment and behaviour, with a strong focus on pupil development and wellbeing.

This role involves supporting children who require additional help with phonics and early reading, ensuring they remain focused, confident, and engaged in their learning. You will help prepare resources, deliver targeted interventions, and ensure each child’s needs are met within a nurturing and inclusive environment.

The Phonics Intervention Buddy role is to commence as soon as possible and will continue until July 2027.
Working hours: 08:30am – 15:30pm, Monday to Friday.

Phonics Intervention Buddy – Roles & Responsibilities

• Work with pupils who may be struggling with phonics, reading, language development, or confidence
• Support pupils to apply comprehension strategies independently across reading tasks and subjects
• Plan and deliver 1:1 reading and phonics interventions suitable for primary‑aged children
• Carefully select reading texts matched to pupils’ individual ability levels
• Deliver targeted sessions designed to improve decoding, fluency, and comprehension skills
• Create a patient, inclusive, and supportive learning environment

Phonics Intervention Buddy – Non‑Negotiables

• Strong understanding and knowledge of phonics and recognised schemes such as Read, Write, Inc, Jolly Phonics, Letters and Sounds, or Floppy Phonics
• Confident use of written and spoken English
• A clear understanding of and commitment to safeguarding children
• Enthusiasm, positivity, and a can‑do attitude
• A reliable work ethic and willingness to support the wider school team
