SEMH Learning Support Assistant

Location: Bradford
Start: September 2026
Contract: Full-time, long-term (with potential for permanent placement)

Milk Education is recruiting resilient and compassionate SEMH Learning Support Assistants to work across a range of Primary and Specialist settings in Bradford from September. Our partner schools support children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, providing structured, nurturing environments where pupils are encouraged to develop confidence, resilience and positive relationships.

This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting pupils who may display challenging behaviours and require additional emotional support to engage successfully in education.

Whether you have experience working in schools, youth work, residential care, coaching or support services, this is an excellent opportunity to make a genuine difference in young people's lives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs and behavioural challenges.

  • Build positive, trusting relationships to help pupils feel safe and engaged in school.

  • Support pupils with emotional regulation using consistent behaviour strategies.

  • Encourage positive social interactions, resilience and self-esteem.

  • Help deliver tailored interventions both inside and outside the classroom.

  • Promote attendance, engagement and independence throughout the school day.

  • Work alongside teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams to implement individual support plans.

  • Accurately record pupil progress, behaviour and wellbeing where required.

  • Create a calm, safe and inclusive learning environment.

About You

  • Patient, resilient and calm under pressure.

  • Passionate about supporting children and young people with SEMH needs.

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

  • Able to remain consistent and positive when managing challenging behaviour.

  • Flexible and willing to work across schools in Bradford.

  • Previous experience in education, youth work, coaching, care or support work is desirable.

  • Team Teach training is advantageous but not essential.

  • Psychology, Criminology, Education or Health & Social Care graduates are encouraged to apply.
