Graduate Primary Teaching Assistant – The Role

As a Graduate Primary Teaching Assistant, you will support teachers across the primary age range, helping pupils to engage with learning and build confidence in the classroom.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
  • Delivering targeted interventions in literacy, numeracy, and phonics
  • Assisting with day-to-day classroom activities and lesson delivery
  • Encouraging pupil engagement, confidence, and participation
  • Supporting children with additional needs, including SEND, helping them access learning and achieve positive outcomes
  • Building positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents

This Graduate Primary Teaching Assistant opportunity offers excellent experience for graduates considering teacher training or a long-term career in education.

Person Specification

We are keen to hear from graduates who have achieved a 2:1 degree or above, particularly in:

  • Psychology
  • Education Studies
  • English, Maths, or Science
  • Early Years Education
  • Other relevant subjects

You should possess:

  • A genuine passion for working with children
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A patient, positive, and proactive attitude
  • The ability to act as a strong role model

Previous experience working with young people through tutoring, mentoring, coaching, volunteering, childcare, or school placements is beneficial but not essential.
