We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated SEN Teacher to join a highly regarded specialist school supporting children and young people with severe and complex learning difficulties, including Autism, physical disabilities, sensory needs and communication difficulties.

This opportunity is based within the Lower School, working with primary-aged pupils in a well-resourced and supportive environment. The successful candidate will work alongside experienced support staff, therapists and families to deliver engaging, highly personalised learning experiences that enable every pupil to reach their potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver creative, engaging and differentiated lessons tailored to individual learning needs.
  • Develop and implement personalised learning programmes linked to EHCP outcomes.
  • Create a safe, structured and stimulating learning environment where pupils can flourish.
  • Support pupils with severe learning difficulties, autism and complex communication needs.
  • Work collaboratively with Speech & Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and wider professionals.
  • Lead and manage classroom support staff to ensure high-quality provision.
  • Monitor progress, assess learning and contribute to annual reviews and EHCP processes.
  • Promote communication, emotional regulation, independence and life skills throughout the curriculum.
  • Build positive relationships with families and contribute to the wider school community.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Has experience teaching within Primary, SEND or specialist educational settings.
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of personalised learning and inclusive practice.
  • Is committed to supporting pupils with complex learning needs.
  • Can work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Has excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Is passionate about helping every child achieve meaningful outcomes.

Desirable Experience

  • Teaching pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) or Autism.
  • Experience using communication approaches such as PECS, PODD, Makaton, AAC or Total Communication.
  • Knowledge of Intensive Interaction, sensory-based learning and autism-friendly practice.
  • Experience contributing to EHCP reviews and person-centred planning.
