A high-achieving and values-driven secondary school in Southwark is seeking to appoint an excellent Teacher of English from September 2026. The school delivers strong Progress 8 outcomes and GCSE results, underpinned by a clear commitment to academic ambition, inclusion and the wider development of every student.

Students learn within a calm, purposeful environment where expectations are high and relationships are strong. Staff are supported to teach well, develop professionally and contribute meaningfully to school life.

The Role

The successful candidate will teach English across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the opportunity to teach at Key Stage 5. A Level teaching experience is desirable but not essential.

We are seeking a teacher who will:

  • Plan and deliver engaging, well-structured lessons

  • Foster a love of reading, writing and critical thinking

  • Develop students’ analytical and communication skills

  • Use assessment effectively to secure strong progress

  • Contribute positively to a collaborative and reflective department

This role would suit experienced teachers as well as Early Career Teachers. Support is carefully tailored, with a structured induction and mentoring programme for ECTs and personalised development pathways for more experienced colleagues.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Demonstrate strong subject knowledge in English Language and/or Literature

  • Have high expectations for achievement and behaviour

  • Build positive and consistent relationships with students

  • Be reflective and committed to ongoing professional development

  • Have the right to work in the UK
