Graduate Learning Support Assistant

Coventry | Full-Time | £20,000-£25,000

Could you be the person who helps a young person believe in themselves?

Are you a graduate who wants to make a meaningful difference to young people's education and wellbeing?

Perhaps you're considering a future career in teaching, SEN, educational psychology or another education-based role, and want to gain valuable school experience before taking your next step.

We are working with an inclusive and supportive secondary school in Coventry who are looking for a compassionate Graduate Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join their team.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience supporting students with additional needs while learning from experienced teachers and support staff.

What will you be doing?

As a Graduate LSA, you'll provide tailored support to students who may need additional help to access their learning and participate fully in school life.

You'll work closely with teachers and the wider support team, helping students to develop their confidence, independence and ability to engage with learning.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group supportfor students with SEN
  • Helping students access lessons, activities and the wider curriculum
  • Supporting pupils to remain engaged, focused and motivated
  • Reinforcing learning and helping students develop their independence
  • Supporting students' social, emotional and communication skills
  • Assisting teachers with differentiated classroom activities
  • Building positive and trusting relationships with individual students
  • Working closely with teachers, the SENCO and wider support staff
  • Sharing relevant information regarding student progress and wellbeing
  • Providing a calm, consistent and encouraging presence throughout the school day

Students may have a range of additional needs, including autism, ADHD and dyslexia.

What are we looking for?

We're looking for graduates who can demonstrate:

  • A strong academic background, ideally a 2:1 degree or above
  • A genuine interest in working with young people
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patience, empathy and resilience
  • A consistently positive and supportive approach
  • The ability to build strong relationships with students
  • A willingness to learn and develop within the role

Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable but not essential.

Experience through tutoring, mentoring, volunteering, coaching or similar settings would be beneficial, but we're particularly interested in graduates who have the right attitude, compassion and enthusiasm to support students.

What can you gain from this role?

This is an opportunity to gain genuine, hands-on experience within a secondary school while developing your understanding of SEN and inclusive education.

You'll have the opportunity to:

  • Build practical experience supporting students with additional needs
  • Develop your confidence within a classroom environment
  • Strengthen your communication, mentoring and interpersonal skills
  • Learn from experienced teachers and education professionals
  • Access training and professional development opportunities
  • Gain valuable experience for teacher training and future education careers
  • Become part of a collaborative and inclusive school community
